My Upcoming Sophomore Year

"God Can Restore What is Broken And Change It Into Something
Amazing. All You Need Is Faith." - Joel 2:25
In a previous post, I had mentioned that I would be attending university near NYC in order to pursue and internship. If you remember, I was nervous to leave behind relationships with people that I felt close too. Well as it turns out, I won't have to. To make a long story short, I decided academically it was best to turn down this tremendous opportunity. Did I make the right decision? Truth be told, I don't know. All I can say is, I'm happy right now. Next week I start my sophomore year of university. Which blows my mind.... I still feel like a freshman.

I just started packing today and it honestly feels like deja-vu. I remember last year at this time, I was packing up my suitcases not knowing what to bring and what to leave behind. Believe it or not, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I know I shouldn't bring as many clothes because I didn't wear half of them last year, but it's so hard to "say no" to your clothes. I'm always thinking "well what if" or "this would be a cute fashion post". However, if  I'm going to succeed in packing less, I need to only take the outfit that truly make me the happiest and most confident....plus ones that I'll actually wear.

I also have to think about bringing more fall appropriate clothes now that it's September. Can you believe September has begun? Like WHAT!? Where did my summer go? I swear this happens every year... The first couple of weeks, I'm ecstatic for the hot summer weather and carefree days. Then towards the middle of summer, it seems to drag on, I can't wait for it to end. And then BOOM... it's autumn. (I love the sound of autumn rather than fall... it's so much more cozy and "colorful"). And now it's back to school season! (does anyone else associate September/fall with back to school?)

After searching for some unique and fun blog post ideas, I came across the idea to write a letter to your future self. I figured since I enjoyed writing a Freshman Reflection after my year ended, why not do a letter to my future self regarding Sophomore year. And then at the end of my year, I can follow it up with a Sophomore Reflection post.

Dear Future Self,

Sadly, another year of your college career has passed. Time flies when you're having fun, huh? I hope this year you learned to live in the moment. I know how excited you get about upcoming events and how much you want to fast forward, but life is too short to let mediocre days just pass you by. Find time in each day to just reflect. Stop...Think...and Just Breath! Make a mental note of things that are currently making you happy. And I hope you took the time to document memories by taking lots of photos. Sure, you may think that you'll remember that exact moment years from now, but those memories fade. Nothing can help you retain moments like photos do.

Another thing you I hope you worked on is motivation. I know each year you make this goal that you're going to stay on top of homework and even review new material each night to prevent test cramming. But let's face it, as days and weeks passed, that goal becomes lost. You find yourself wanting each lesson chapter to end so you can have a fresh start. And then it comes time for the final and you realize you can't recall one thing you learned.  I hope this year was not the case.

And as far as relationships go, did you find that special someone that makes you laugh hysterically, helps you out in times of need, and simply makes you wake up each day with a smile? I sure hope so!

And if all of this fails, I hope that you had fun this year. You tend to be more reserved, so I'm hoping you let loose and had the time of your life. Nothing can compare to your college days.
