Healthy Life, Happy Skin

I'm one of those people that wears makeup 99.9% of the days in a year. I love wearing a smokey eye, winged eyeliner, a nice contour, bold brows, and a subtle lip color. What brings the whole look together though is my foundation. It hides all my imperfections and gives me that close to "flawless" look that I desire. In order for your foundation to look seamless, though there are some important factors that I think we sometimes forget.

1. Prepping
It seems simple, but be sure you're using skin products that are made for your skin type whether you have dry skin, oily, acne prone, etc. Secondly, stick to your routine. Don't be skipping nights where you don't remove your makeup, or skipping mornings where you don't cleanse your face. I can't emphasize enough the importance of exfoliating, cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Also, DO NOT FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN. SPF should worn everyday to protect against the rays and prevent skin from aging.

2. Happiness
Most of the time, your skin looks its best when you're not stressed or angry. So try and be in a good mood everyday. It's not just good for skin, but also your mental health.

3. Makeup
This one might be an obvious one, but make sure your foundation is the right skin type for you. If you have super dry skin, why would you be using a matte foundation?

4. Diet
Make sure you're drinking lots of water. You're suppose to be consuming 8 glasses of water per day. Not only that, but think of what you're eating. If you're eating greasy and processed foods all the time, chances are it will start effecting your skin. So instead incorporate these simple snacks into your diet.

  • BLUEBERRIES: They contain Vitamin A which helps with eliminate darkness or discoloration in the skin. Vitamin C is also found in blueberries which is known to fight against premature aging. Did you know blueberries are also excellent for acne treatments? So either make a blueberry mask and smear it over your skin, or sprinkle some berries into your oatmeal.
  • WALNUTS:  These nuts contain omega -3's which are great for fighting that premature aging. Next time you're having a salad, add some walnuts to top it off.
  • ALMONDS: This anti-oxidant snack will help improve the complexion of your skin and help fight aging. So instead of munching on potato-chips, grab a handful of these.
