Numbers.
Tuesday, July 12, 2016First off, I have a request for you. I'm thinking of doing a Q&A, so if y'all could leave some questions in the comments, I would very much appreciate it.
Living in today's society, it's hard to not gauge our "accomplishments" based on numbers. Whether that be how much weight we have lost, what percentage we got on a test, our given salary, etc. But what prompted me to post this was the immense number of times people would post on my Instagram photos (@katekoutures) asking if I would pay for instant likes and follows. Like wtf!
I post on Instagram because I WANT to, not because I see the need to be "popular." I have a passion for photography and Instagram allows me to share those photos with everyone. I'm happy with the 50 some people that follow me under their own will. It may be because they like my color scheme, my fashion content, my lifestyle content, etc. I'm just grateful that those people see the need to keep up to date with me
And to me, if I were to buy those fake followers/likes that would be equivalent to me bribing my boss for a promotion. It's just not right and I didn't earn it. I feel sorry for the people that go to that ultimate low point, where a certain number of likes is CRUCIAL to them. Is 100 more likes really going to make you any happier? We should be focusing on what's truly important, such as family and friend relationships. Instagram/Twitter should be a small part of lives, not consume it all.
Sorry for this rant, but I felt the need to address this topic of fake followers. I'm hoping this will slowly fade away, because it honestly is depressing to think about.

Couldn't agree more!
DeleteI feel the exact same way about followers and likes! It took me the longest time to even okay myself with using hashtags because that felt disingenuous to me. Blogging changed my mind about hashtags, but I still don't get that many likes! I wouldn't want to get fake likes I didn't earn.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my question for your Q&A is: If you could only use three beauty products for the rest of your life, what would they be?
