A Weekend Get-a-way

Monday, February 22, 2016

My boyfriend and I planned a little get-away from all the stress and boring-ness from our college lives and took a trip to see his hometown. His mom lives in a cute, little country house with lots of acres. I always enjoy visiting there because it just has this sense of hominess.

Since we were both bored when we arrived late afternoon, we decided to go snow-shoeing. This was my first time doing it, so I didn't quite know what to expect. Let me tell you it was quite the workout walking up those hills of corn fields. But honestly, it was super romantic. It was just the two of us, alone, in this humungous open area of nature. And up ahead was a little woods area. I honestly didn't think I would be able to make it that far, buy my boyfriend insisted that we walked up there. And I am so glad that we did because it was just a totally different atmosphere being surrounded by trees upon trees. I actually ended up falling down once, but that was it. And then we decided to walk back but not until we drew a heart in the snow... aww how cute, right? The trip back actually went by super fast...I was surprised!

That night, we just super chill; his friends came over for a game of Texas Hold'em. The past few times that I've played, I have lost by quite a lot. However, for some reason I was feeling lucky and decided we should all put some money in the pot. And we did; five dollars each. I quickly was losing my chips and I starting to panic. Slowly but surely, I began to make a comeback. And before I knew it, it was just me and my boyfriend against each other. I was determined to beat him, since he always seems to win. But after a while it was starting to get old of trading chips back and forth. We started playing at 8 and now it was midnight. So I decided to call it a draw and split the pot. So we each came out of the game with a profit of 10 dollars!

Saturday morning we had a quick breakfast of Honey Nut Cheerios and headed out for a day of fun! Our first stop a skiing place to go snow tubing. Another thing I hadn't done before. I was all bundled up in my boyfriends eskimo hat and his mom snow boots. To be honest though, I was sweating because of the sun shining and having to lug your tube. Other than that, I had a blast just acting like a kid around my boyfriend.

Then we stopped by a bluff. We had visited this during the Christmas season, but it was dark out when we went....plus I didn't have my camera. So I made by boyfriend take us back. And poor him; I made him freeze so I could snap some photos in his sweater.

It was his idea to take this more "serious" one. I love that he always gives input for photos. Then we headed off to his niece's birthday party. I was quite excited because I've never met his niece, nephew, or half-sister. Their house was beautifully decorated and the food was delicious....especially the cupcakes and punch. Let me just say I had forgotten how much energy kids have. They were non-stop talking. I'm not complaining though! :)

By the end of the night though, I was a little disappointed. I kept wanting to fast forward to the next activity: snow tubing, the bluff, and the birthday party. I didn't just "live in the moment" like I said I would for my New Year's resolution. I'm still trying to improve that and it's a constant struggle. I keep wanting to skip the boring/basic days and wanting to fast forward to the more "exciting" days. And now I find myself realizing that I have practically two months left with my boyfriend until we have to part our ways at the end of this college semester. So from here on out, I'm REALLY going to try my best to enjoy these last weeks with him and make every minute spent with him count!
